“Two Toronto civic unions will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on June 22, setting the clock ticking on last-ditch efforts for the city to clinch collective agreements with its indoor and outdoor workers. Negotiations have stalled over the city’s proposal to reform sick leave, a $186 million unfunded liability on the books. Employees currently get 18 sick days a year, which they can bank and cash out at the end of their careers, receiving pay for months after they stop working.”
