My wife cut my oranges up

I spied Frank at work eating a curiously cut and packaged orange. I asked him who did that (knowing the answer) and he said Donna, his wife. Then he said "don't ever say I don't have any pull with my wife.

(UPDATE: He was trying to move it out of the way when I started to snap the picture... guilty conscious?)

Thank You Mr Marshall

The girls just finished writing thank you cards for their teachers (and added a little Starbucks gift certificate). Here's Robin's... She has a ways to go on her penmanship! :-)

TFK Fundraising Started

Wow... I started my fundraising effort for this year's Tour for Kids and in just 24 hours, people have responded with $2,235 in donations already! The amazing thing is that I've reached 10 first time donors that have contributed $710, which is great. A special thanks to Nigel at QuIC for the large corporate donation. I'm pumped!

Kids of Steel

Sunday morning was the girl's first Tri of the year (Mississauaga). Robin was in the 3-5 year old category (classic - most kids had training wheels, some had trikes!) which was a 20 meter swim, 500 meter bike and 100 meter run. She did really well, smiling during the whole swim, gunning her little legs on the bike and sprinting to the finish. Of course, she got a medal (the same one everybody got!). She ended up finishing in 33rd out of 105 kids (I can't believe they have timing chips - classic), and 18th among girls in just 6 minutes and 43 seconds... awesome!

Here they are getting ready for Robin's swim (Abby had to wait another hour and a half!)

Abby was next up with a 25 meter swim, 1.5km hilly bike ride and a 500 meter run which included a steep hill. Abby ended up 8th out of 106 kids at a time of 13:43, and 3rd for girls in the 6-7 year old category. Way to go girls! Here's Robin with her medal, waiting for Abby's swim to start.

Short Nannies

I was driving with the kids and chuckled when I saw a neighbour's Filipino nanny who is extremely.... short. When the kids asked what I was laughing at, I told them. Abby has a friend, Rachel, who is very petite (she is much shorter than Robin and very cute). When Abby heard what I said, she yelled out "so, when Rachel grows up, she'll be a short nanny"... I almost died laughing. It turns out, the "nanny" Abby was talking about was a "grandmother"... nonetheless, very funny that she would blurt that out in a pseudo defense of her minute friend.

Radical Dude!

Abby and Robin were invited to Evan's 7th birthday party at CJ's Skateboard Park. The girls were very scared (of the unknown!) and were not too sure about going, but as usual by the end of the night, they both now want skateboards!

Abby liked it so much, she snuck the light on last night and did 3 pages in her diary on her 'experience'... classic.

This Makes Me Sick!

“Two Toronto civic unions will be in a legal strike position as of 12:01 a.m. on June 22, setting the clock ticking on last-ditch efforts for the city to clinch collective agreements with its indoor and outdoor workers. Negotiations have stalled over the city’s proposal to reform sick leave, a $186 million unfunded liability on the books. Employees currently get 18 sick days a year, which they can bank and cash out at the end of their careers, receiving pay for months after they stop working.”

Ride for Heart

For the third year in a row, the plan was to do the Becel Ride for Heart today. For the first time, however, I wouldn't be doing it at the front of the ride with my cycling buddies, but at a more relaxed pace(!) with family and friends.

We drove down and parked just West of the Ex and hooked up a trail-a-bike behind my bike and trailer behind Beth's. The kids took turns throughout the ride - I could feel the little engines pushing on the pedals, and we flew up and down the closed-for-the-day Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway.

In all, we covered about 35km, with the plan next year to have the girls both ride the whole distance. This is a great event, for a great cause that was definitely more fun as a family affair. Here are the girls with Linda and Gillian.

Holy Crow

Gram and Banka were babysitting last night, and I received this report today from Gram:

Last night I said "Holy Crow!" to which Robin said "That's not nice!". I explained to her that a crow was just a black bird, and there wasn't anything wrong with saying Holy Crow. Then she said....."It's better than saying "Holy Vagina eh?"

Up!

It was a windy, crappy day on Sunday so we took the kids to Up in 3D. Great movie with a lot of great messages.
